Artist Residency in Oaxaca

A space to create, settle into your own process, and grow your artistic practice and career through an inclusive environment that connects artists, contemporary practices, and Oaxaca’s local traditions.

Bestiario is an artist residency organized by Casa Bestia for creators looking for more than just a place to work: real time to develop their practice, a living context to nourish their process, and a community to engage with, produce alongside, and exhibit in Oaxaca.

Bestiario starts from a simple idea: every creator arrives with their own language and needs the right context and conversation to develop it. We are interested in hybrid, experimental, unfinished, or urgent processes—projects that need space to take shape, exchange to grow, and a thoughtful environment to support their evolution.

Here, the residency goes beyond accommodation or studio space. It becomes a platform for production, support, and visibility, in dialogue with the collective, the material, the symbolic, and the cultural force of Oaxaca.

Why Oaxaca?

Oaxaca offers more than inspiration: it offers context.

More than just a destination, Oaxaca is now one of the strongest settings for contemporary art production in Mexico. Its strength lies in the coexistence of local knowledge, material practices, creative community, and an active network of workshops, galleries, residencies, cultural spaces, and independent agents.

Here, creative work is shaped by the connection between material culture, experimentation, collaboration, and artistic circulation.

Bestiario takes that energy as a starting point to support processes seeking depth, exchange, and a closer relationship with the rhythms, people, and possibilities of the local art ecosystem.
